as a university graduate i've never really paid much attention to polytechnics or institutes of technology, nor have i had reason too. when i cast my mind back to that ever so important career decision making time at high school i can't even recall them being presented as an option. i'm not entirely sure why... but i'm guessing it had something to do with the fact that traditionally they have been the place of trade training... & not that of private school leavers (cringe worthy i know, but not all that unlikely to be true).
recently however, in a quest to reinstate some creativity in my life, i've discovered my local institute of technology & the extensive range of short courses they have on offer.
EIT offers short courses over nine different subject areas. there's everything from barista training, to an introduction to gas, arc and MIG welding (whatever that may be), as well as interior design & accounting for non-accountants... to find out more you can download a copy of their 2012 brochure
here... i've got my eye on soft furnishings. the joys of short courses are that they are open to all members of the public, are relativity low cost & tend to fit nicely around the 9-5 work schedule of most.
so if you're up for it, i challenge you to try one.
